Vice President, Strategic Planning and Governance Practice

 Pat’s dual background as a senior Information Technology executive and as an Auditor brings a unique perspective to the strategic planning process. He uses that perspective to help client CEOs, CFOs and CIOs work together to align the IT tactical plans with the overall business strategy.  He leads them through a comprehensive risk analysis to ensure their digital assets are protected using ISO, HIPAA and HITRUST standards.  In addition, Pat uses his experience to assist client CEOs and CFOs in selecting and mentoring their CIOs.

Pat joined CIO Services Group after eight years as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of First Horizon Corp. where a he managed a budget of $210 million and a staff of 500 people.  His prior roles include senior management positions in information technology, audit and services. In addition to the financial sector, Pat has also worked in the manufacturing, logistics and distribution industries with P&L responsibility for both domestic and international markets.  Pat held the role of Chief Operations Officer in two successful internet startups.  Pat has been the featured speaker at local and national conventions and the author of several published works.  His article “Risk Analysis of Software Systems” was considered one of the first serious attempts to quantify risk in software and is quoted in several books on the subject. His other articles have been published and quoted in numerous prestigious publications such as the “Wall Street Journal”.  In 2006, Pat was named CIO of Year in Banking and was featured on the cover of “Bank Systems and Technology”.

Pat is a Certified Internal Auditor.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Kansas, an Master of Business Administration from the University of Colorado, and served in the U.S. Army.  Pat has been a member of the MIS Advisory Councils of both the University of Kansas and the University of Memphis.  He has acted as mentor and board member for several startups at the Emerge Memphis business incubator. He currently serves as Executive in Residence at the University of Memphis.
